Vietnam has one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, and favorable conditions makes right now the ideal time for American businesses to enter this market. In just the last five years, U.S. exports to Vietnam have increased by an astounding 85%, which is substantially higher than the global increase in U.S. exports of 53.5%. In 2014, U.S. exports to Vietnam topped $5.7 billion while Vietnam exports to the U.S. increased by 24% to reach $30.6 billion. These figures are only expected to grow in the future, especially with the implementation of the Trans Pacific Partners Trade Agreement (TPP) giving San Francisco Bay area companies the opportunity to be a part of this exciting and rapidly growing market.
San Francisco and Vietnam share strong ties that have been fostered through more than 20
years of government, investment, and trade exchanges. Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco became Sister Cities in 1995, and Vietnam opened its first Consulate and Trade Office in San Francisco in 1998.
